This webinar cuts across different IWA鈥檚 initiatives, programmes and communities. It is jointly organised by IWA鈥檚 Inclusive Urban Sanitation Initiative in collaboration with the .

UN-Habitat鈥檚 vision is 鈥渁 better quality of life for all in an urbanizing world鈥. UN-Habitat is implementing the 鈥淪caling Citywide Inclusive Sanitation Systems (CWIS)鈥 Project which aims to ensure everyone benefits from safely managed sanitation.

The is one of the main deliverables of the project. It provides a global reference on wastewater and faecal sludge management in urban settings.

During the webinar, UN-Habitat will present 4 case studies from Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Nakuru (Kenya), and Hanoi (Vietnam) from the report, to illustrate specific challenges and emerging best-fit approaches related to sanitation and wastewater management, providing evidence and underlying rationale for the public policy response proposed.

 

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Get an overview of sanitation and wastewater management in cities and human settlements.
  • Understand responsibilities across the sanitation service chain; and for inclusive mandates that encompass low-income urban areas and informal settlements.
  • Understand diverse aspects of regulation (economic, service quality, environmental and public health) as part of a public service approach to sanitation.
  • Grasp the need to strengthen monitoring systems, including the role of digitisation.
  • Understand diverse aspects of climate resilient sanitation, including sustainable urban drainage systems, waterless solutions, and wastewater and faecal sludge reuse and resource recovery.
